LCAOA names scholarship recipients
The Lake County Athletic Officials Association recently awarded Leslie Parker, Nicholas Pitts, Melissa Plesac and Brad Swanson the Paul Danko Scholarship Award. The $500 scholarships are in memory of former LCAOA member Danko, who died while officiating a basketball game.
Volleyball officiating classes offered
The Lake County Athletic Officials Association will be hosting classes for those interested in becoming licensed volleyball officials — persons must no longer be in high school. The classes will be held on Mondays and Thursdays from Junly 17 though July 27. On the final day, rules examination will be administered. Once all requirements are met, individuals will be licensed to officiate any IHSAA sanctioned volleyball contest.
There is no fee for the class, but a $45 application fee to the IHSAA.

Wild Cats holding soccer tryouts
The Wild Cats Futbol Club is holding tryouts for its boys and girls soccer teams under the age of 14 on June 20, 22, 27 and 29 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Kate Corgan Field, 830 S. Lake Park Ave., Hobart. Players should attend all four sessions, and should bring a birth certificate and small picture; ball, shin guards, spikes and water bottle; and a $50 performance bond, which goes toward player registration and fees.

The 18-and-under ASA Northern National Girls Softball Qualifier, to be held June 23-25 at Prairie State College in Chicago Heights, is looking for teams.
