Derrick Pettway of Decatur received a Juneteenth Fest Scholarship at the Focus on Education program held as part of the festival.
Pettway is a 2006 graduate of Austin High School and plans to attend Troy State University. He is the son of Clemon and Ida Pettway.
Northwest-Shoals
These area students have received scholarships from Northwest-Shoals Community College.
Grant Copeland of Moulton, Ambassador Leadership scholarship. He is a 2006 graduate of Lawrence County High School, where he was tapped for the Educational Talent Search and was named to “Who’s Who Among American High School Students.” He is the son of Laquita and Stanley Coan and Scott Copeland.
Lindsey Mardis of Town Creek, Billy Bowling Memorial Scholarship. She is a 2006 graduate of Hatton High School, where she was a member of the Spanish Club, FCCLA and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. She is the daughter of Timmy and Carol Mardis.
Greenbaum gets degree
Harry Greenbaum of Somerville received his bachelor’s degree in animal and dairy science from Mississippi State University, Starkville, at the May 13 commencement exercises. He graduated magna cum laude and is enrolled in the MSU College of Veterinary Medicine, where he carries a 4.0 grade point average.
Greenbaum is a member of the student chapter of the American Veterinary Association and of the Alpha Psi Veterinary Fraternity.
He is a 2002 graduate of Decatur High School and is the son of Lynne Greenbaum and the late Gilbert Greenbaum. His grandparents are Ruby Russell of Auburn, William Greenbaum of Huntsville, the late Dallas Russell and the late Carolyn Greenbaum.

Austin Jenkins of Moulton has been selected for membership in the National Society of High School Scholars. He is a incoming 10th-grader at Lawrence County High School and also has been nominated to participate in the World Scholar Athlete Games. He is the son of Leslie and Danna Namie and Daniel Jenkins, all of Moulton.
The NSHSS recognizes top scholars in the nation.
Auto tech conference
Sherman Leeth, an instructor at Austin High School, and Jerry Ellis, an instructor at Lawrence County Center of Technology, have completed a conference on advanced automotive technology at Lawson State Community College. The conference presented seminars on upcoming automotive technology.
Great teacher Hudson
Rhonda Hudson of Decatur has been named an Outstanding American Teacher by the National Honor Roll for 2005-06. She is a science instructor at Eva School. The award is presented to teachers for exceptional performance in the motivation and empowerment of their students.
Walker studying in Italy
Robert Walker of Decatur is spending a summer semester at Harding University’s International Program in Florence, Italy.
He is a junior majoring in political science.
Furman announcements
Ross Mullinax of Decatur has received his degree from Furman University, Greenville, S.C.
Megan Mullinax has been named to the 2006 spring semester dean’s list at Furman.

Holt receives scholarship
Ashley N. Holt of Decatur has been awarded a scholarship from the Southwest Chemical Association.
She is a senior at Mississippi State University and is majoring in chemical engineering. She is also an MSU Honors Program scholar, president of Omega Chi Epsilon chemical engineering honor society and a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and Engineering Ambassadors.
She also is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Golden Key honor societies. She also is a Swalm Scholar and participant in MSU’s Cooperative Education Program that allows her to alternate semesters between work in a chemical manufacturing facility and campus classes.
She is the daughter of Timothy and Nina Holt.
Summerlin gets degree
Bryan Summerlin has received his Master of Laws degree in taxation from the University of Washington School of Law, in Seattle. He is the son of Mitchell and Diane Summerlin of Decatur.
Cullman Christian
Cullman Christian School is accepting applications for students entering seventh and eighth grades in August. Registration deadline is July 14.

Charise Bain of Hartselle has received her bachelor’s degree from Maryville College, Maryville, Tenn.
