Krisi Anne Caisse of Lowell, a 2006 graduate of Lowell High School, received a $250 scholarship at the recent fourth annual Honey Dew Donuts Scholarship Breakfast, held at the Sheraton Needham. Honey Dew awarded more than $20,000 in scholarship money this year to 75 New England students.

Lowell High summer reading list available

LOWELL — Copies of Lowell High School’s summer reading list are available in the school’s main office, Pollard Memorial Library and local bookstores. The list also has been posted on the Lowell High School Web page at http://lhs.lowell.k12.ma.us. Summer reading is encouraged for any student enrolled in a college-level English course for the 2006-07 school year. Summer reading is required for all students taking honors, Latin Lyceum, high-honors, and advanced-placement English courses.

Camp offered to hard-of-hearing girls

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Deaf and hard-of-hearing girls who are entering eighth grade in September and who are interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math can attend Tech Girlz, a new summer camp at Rochester Institute of Technology’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf, from July 30 through Aug. 5.

Tech Girlz is designed to help girls learn and think about jobs and careers in Science and Technology. Campers will learn through hands-on activities, such as building their own computer to take home, discovering the secrets of roller-coaster design, and becoming a commander on a simulated mission to Mars. They also will meet other girls with similar interests, get their own lab coat and engage in social activities.

Camp classes are taught in English and in sign language, are certified by the New York State Department of Health, and incorporate National Science Education standards. The cost is $650 and includes tuition, housing in a residence hall on campus, and meals and snacks for the week. Parents are invited to opening and closing activities. Class for non-native English speakers

NASHUA — Rivier College invites non-native English speakers to register for the summer intermediate-level English Listening and Speaking Skills class. The noncredit class meets twice weekly, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 3 to 5 p.m.

The course is designed specifically for English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) who want to improve their English listening and speaking skills. The class runs from July 11 through Aug. 17 and includes practice in grammar and pronunciation.
