U.S. Concrete Inc. said Monday that a charge associated with its Michigan operations was largely responsible for a fourth-quarter net loss of $23.8 million, or 63 cents loss per diluted share, compared with net income of $4.1 million, or 14 cents a share, for the same period in 2005.

The results include a $26.8 million after-tax, non-cash charge to reduce the carrying value of the Houston-based concrete products company’s goodwill related to its Michigan operations. A 9 percent gain in fourth-quarter profit helped push InVentiv Health Inc.’s annual income up nearly 17 percent.
