A total of 22 educational institutes, language schools and publishing firms won prizes Thursday at the 2007 Korea Foreign Language Education Awards, organized by The Korea Times. They were recognized for their unique and distinctive education programs or equipment.
President-publisher of The Korea Times Park Moo-jong presented plaques to the 22 award winners at the COEX conference center, southern Seoul.
The awards, which started in 2005, are designed to provide people with information on quality foreign language education programs and to promote the development of education institutes and companies.
Three embassies from English-speaking nations _ the U.S., New Zealand, and Australia _ supported this year’s ceremony and their representatives handed awards to six companies and education institutes.
Winners were chosen in six categories: public education, private education, books/journals, multi-faceted education, online education and general education.
The winners were: Namseoul University; FasTracKids / Dream Kids; Minjungseorim; Lee Ik-hoon Language Institute; Geni Cube; Charlie Native English; Telefree; TALL English; Kangsan Net; Kang Tae Woo Language Institute; Korea Media; Global Contents Republic; Institute of English Meditation; Neungyule Education; and Kabcheonha Chinese Language Institute for The Korea Times Award. Eastern Bridge Language School and Yebanclassic for the New Zealand Ambassador Award. Edubox, LOGOGEN ENGLISH and Kidnet for the U.S. Ambassador Award. Tuntun English for the Australia Ambassador Award.
“We evaluated how companies or institutes differentiated themselves with unique vision and strategy to foster global skills,'’ Kim Se-joong, head judge of the awards, said.
“In the assessment process, which was conducted in association with the Korea Association of Teachers of English, panels gave more weight to practical and easy-to-apply teaching methods compared with other candidates,'’ he said.
