Terri Boeskool, a registered nurse who relocated to Okinawa with her Marine husband in June, said finding a job — let alone a nursing job — has been tough.

“I didn’t think it would be as hard as it’s been,” she said. “As soon as we got orders I started researching Web sites.”

Boeskool was one of several to show up Tuesday at U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa’s job fair to recruit civilian nurses.

There are 10 positions open, said Capt. LaFrancis Francis, a registered nurse and the hospital’s director of Nursing Services,

The hospital currently has 144 active-duty and civilian nurses assigned to its staff, although about 10 of those are deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan and Cuba, Francis said.

The two-year MBA programme of the Directorate of Distance Education, Madurai Kamaraj University, will be available in semester mode from next academic year. While each semester will have five papers, the course duration remains same. A decision to this effect was taken at the Academic Council meeting held here on Thursday. The issue was raised by K. Subburaj, Deputy Registrar and council member, who cited students’ practical difficulties in appearing for all papers at one go every year. A student of this distance education course had to write 11 papers each year and it might be practically difficult for students to prepare/write all of them, he said.

After getting members’ consent, the Vice-Chancellor R. Karpaga Kumaravel approved the resolution stating that MBA non-semester pattern would be changed to semester type. “My representation is that the feedback from students should be considered and the MBA course of distance education stream should be changed to semester system for students’ convenience,” said Mr. Subburaj. » Read more after the jump →

Cesar Juarez rides the bus to school like so many college students — head against the glass, earphones streaming down his olive jacket, eyes straight ahead.

The 22-year-old was a full-time student until this semester, when he and his family discovered they were facing possible foreclosure on their San Jose home. That reality has left him a part-time student this semester, but the situation doesn’t dampen his spirits.

Juarez keeps a positive outlook because he focuses every day on being a student and helping others realize their educational dreams.

“Education and studying is essential,” he says, “but you have to practice what you preach.”

Juarez is working toward a degree in social science, hoping he might work as a teacher when he’s finished. » Read more after the jump →

It is called the Young Trader Scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded three times each year to a member of each winning team in the “The Stock Market Game” in grades 10-12. 5/17/2008 - A state appellate court ruled Thursday that two voucher programs for foster and disabled children attending private schools violate the Arizona Constitution by using public money to help private and religious schools.

The 3-0 ruling Thursday by a Court of Appeals panel in Tucson reverses a trial judge’s ruling that upheld the programs enacted in 2006 at the urging of “school choice” supporters.

The programs provide grants worth thousands of dollars for students, with the money paid in checks to parents who must endorse them over to the schools involved.

The ruling is the first major ruling by an Arizona court on a school-choice issue since the Arizona Supreme Court in 1999 upheld allowing state income tax credits for donations for scholarships for private school students.
