Reflecting on her victory in the Pennsylvania primary, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton on Wednesday neatly summed up the chief political rationale of her enduring candidacy.

“I won the states that we have to win — Ohio, now Pennsylvania,” Mrs. Clinton said on CNN about her successes over Senator Barack Obama, in one of her six appearances on morning news shows. “It’s very hard to imagine a Democrat getting to the White House without winning those states.”

Mrs. Clinton says her popularity among blue-collar workers, women and Hispanics makes her the candidate to beat Senator John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, in the swing states that decide presidential races. The Burundi hopes to attract mining investment, ect Water, Energy and Mines for high priority. The government was proactively promoting foreign investment in its small and largely underdeveloped mining sector.

Addressing delegates at the Mining Indaba, the Burundian Minister of Water, Energy and Mines Samuel Ndyiragije said that the government was making a substantial effort to develop the economy by giving high priority to the exploration of its mineral resources.

Ndyiragije further stated that a number of facilities and advantages would be available to mining companies and foreign investors that would be prepared to invest in either exploration activities or mining projects.

Although Burundi was formally known an as agricultural nation and did not have a tradition of mining activities, Ndyiragije stated that Burundi had substantial deposits covering a wide spectrum of minerals. » Read more after the jump →

VILLAGERS have felled a tree across Papua New Guinea’s historic Kokoda Trail, where Australian soldiers fought Japanese troops in 1942, and declared trekkers unwelcome.

Village spokesman Barney Jack said yesterday the track was closed.

“From today no trekkers will pass by here,” he said. “If people come here and trespass on our land, we will use force to stop them.”

Mr Jack said he represented 1000 villagers who are demanding that the PNG Government allow Australian company Frontier Resources to dig up 600 metres of the track to mine a $US6 billion ($A6.7 billion) copper and gold deposit. » Read more after the jump →

AirAsia affiliated Tune Ventures Sdn Bhd is establishing a major presence in Borneo’s shopping centre by opening its first department store and a 166-room hotel at the 1Borneo mega mall.

Tune Ventures’ flagship retail outlet to be called Tune Store will occupy a 9,300sq m area in the massive mall which is scheduled to open by April.

“We are targeting the middle income earners with our extensive selection of merchandise for discerning shoppers,” Tune Store director Dennis Melka said after the signing of an agreement between Tune Ventures and Sagajuta Sdn Bhd, 1Borneo’s developer for the establishment of the retail outlet.

Japan has backed down from a highly controversial plan to hunt endangered humpback whales off Antarctica, after fierce criticism by Australia. The Japanese whaling fleet, however, still plans to hunt almost 1,000 whales this season. VOA’s Heda Bayron reports from our Asia News Center in Hong Kong.
