Cesar Juarez rides the bus to school like so many college students — head against the glass, earphones streaming down his olive jacket, eyes straight ahead.

The 22-year-old was a full-time student until this semester, when he and his family discovered they were facing possible foreclosure on their San Jose home. That reality has left him a part-time student this semester, but the situation doesn’t dampen his spirits.

Juarez keeps a positive outlook because he focuses every day on being a student and helping others realize their educational dreams.

“Education and studying is essential,” he says, “but you have to practice what you preach.”

Juarez is working toward a degree in social science, hoping he might work as a teacher when he’s finished. » Read the rest of the entry..

Over the last few months, Sen. Jim Webb of Virginia has “rallied the troops” to support an overhaul of the current GI Bill. Earlier in May, AMVETS, one of the nation’s leading veterans’ service organizations with chapters representing all generations of veterans in all 50 states, rallied on the steps of Capitol Hill alongside Webb, a bipartisan bloc of Congressional supporters and fellow veterans’ service organizations seeking to restore veterans’ education benefits.

As Military Appreciation Month draws to a close, we must recommit ourselves as Americans to providing for those who sacrifice to keep us free. When the original GI Bill passed after World War II, we learned that an investment in our veterans’ education is an investment in the future of our nation. These brave men and women are proven leaders on the battlefield and they will prove to be leaders in our communities for years to come.

In recent months we have seen reports citing high rates of unemployment among our recently-returned veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. It is our obligation as a nation to see that our veterans and their family members have every opportunity to succeed. Sadly, we are failing.

PARSIPPANY, N.J. — /PRNewswire/ — Every day new technology emerges that brings distant friends and families closer together. Whether it is sending an instant-message, e-mail or pictures online, these quick and simple computer tasks are nothing new to today’s teens that are growing up in a digital world. Many senior citizens want and need to keep connected to their families. However, the same technology is foreign to them. Simply receiving a picture online of their grandchildren would be a joyful yet difficult task to perform without the computer skills that teenagers enjoy.

PNY Technologies, Inc., a leading manufacturer and supplier of computer products, put teens to the test to bridge this technological gap with the first annual Seniors Helping Seniors competition. This scholarship program invited all high school seniors in the graduating class of 2008 to design and perform a project that would enhance the lives and meet the needs of seniors within their community while utilizing PNY technology.
